About the owners

When the proud owners of Broad House Hotel, Philip and Caroline Search first viewed the stunning 18th century Queen Anne residence in 2006, they not only fell in love with the beauty of its setting and the timeless elegance of the house, but were immediately convinced that others would appreciate and enjoy its tranquility and warm homely atmosphere.

With a wealth of experience in the hotel industry, the couple have put their hearts and souls into transforming Broad House Hotel and in the Autumn of 2007, they opened their unique boutique country house hotel to guests.

Philip first started in the hotel business as a 16 year-old lad washing dishes at the Banchory Lodge, a small country house hotel on the banks of the River Dee in Aberdeenshire. He completed an HND in Hospitality Management at Robert Gordons University and went on to hold managerial positions in hotels in Maidstone, Bedford, Southampton and London, before joining Travel Inns where he was openings and general manager at the Glasgow and Edinburgh Travel Inns and then general manager at first the Gatwick Travel Inn and later the Portsmouth Marriott. A fresh challenge brought him to Norfolk where he was general manager of the Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel and Country Club for four years, during which time he oversaw capital investment projects at the hotel worth £4.5 million, including the golf course and shop, restaurant and leisure club refurbishments.

Caroline has also spent her professional life in restaurant and hotel management, She started as an openings manager with TGI Fridays Restaurants, opening eight new TGIFs around the UK, before moving up to responsibility for opening Travel Inn hotels next to TGIF restaurants. She was also a systems trainer and then a franchise service manager for Travel Inn, before becoming a project manager for Whitbread PLC Travel Inn Systems where she designed and implemented a new £6 million reception and booking system for 300 outlets.

Having refurbished a cottage and a barn, she has personally project managed the transformation of Broad House Hotel and is responsible for the stylish and luxurious décor in our bedrooms and bathrooms and other rooms throughout the house.

New to the team is little Henry Search who arrived in mid September 2007. In addition to delighting guests, he has helped create a true family home atmosphere at Broad House Hotel.
