Michael, Our Head Gardener
Our stunning gardens and grounds at Broad House Hotel are an integral part of the wonderful country house experience we are pleased to share with our guests.
The gardens are not only a beautiful backdrop to our elegant Queen Anne house, but have also played an essential role for many years in the lives of those who have called it home. When the Trafford family lived here, the bountiful produce cultivated in its kitchen garden enabled the household to be self-sufficient.
Today, we are lucky to have someone tending our colourful flower borders and vegetable garden who is not only a first class plantsman but also has a genuine love for the place.
Michael has been the gardener at Broad House for 30 years and was in fact born here as his mother was cook for the Trafford Family.
He left Broad House as a young man to complete his apprenticeship and learn his craft, but then returned as an under gardener to hone his skills and progressed to being in full charge. It has been a labour of love for him bringing the market garden back to its full glory after a gap of 15 years.
